The 2018 CoDA Service Conference authorized the Communications Committee to initiate an Ad Hoc (temporary) Committee to investigate whether the current structure of CoDA World Service could better serve the Fellowship and foster the carrying of our message. In particular, for many people doing service, business concerns seemed to predominate at times over Fellowship concerns and Fellowship work has felt hindered by insufficient support. And this has persisted despite many changes of personnel and general acknowledgement of the quality and commitment of that personnel.

The Communications Committee devoted several months to recruiting members for the Ad-Hoc Committee (AHC) and designing an operating format for proposal to those members. The first meeting took place by teleconference on January 13 and are continuing on a bi-weekly basis. The role of the Communications Committee is thus ended.

Considerable discussion went into revising and approving the operating format, an indication that we regard how we organize ourselves as critical to achieving our hoped for success in discovering the same for CoDA World Service.

The first substantive content discussed and approved is a set of initial assumptions:

This committee accepts four foundation documents as required for meetings

This committee accepts concept of inverted pyramid as structure for CoDA service

Bylaws as written are subject to change by CSC; we may propose motions to CSC

The Fellowship is not the Corporation; the Corporation is not the Fellowship

Now we are seeking information on how other twelve step fellowships have organized themselves and whether those structures have served them well. The uniqueness of CoDA though, even among twelve step groups, has been emphasized by several members.

We are assembling lists of specific areas of concern and lists of tasks appropriate to the Fellowship in contrast to those appropriate to Co-Dependents Anonymous, Inc., the Corporation. We believe these will help focus our conversations toward solutions to the difficulties many of us have experienced.
