So my name is Mark and I am a part of 4 or 5 different 12 step programs. One of my sponsors thinks I am neurotic for believing that playing video games is compulsive for me. But hey, my truth is my truth. And I have learned that over time from other codependents in recovery.
I can become aware when another relationship, even a sponsor's, that is supposed to be helpful is becoming unhealthy because I'm abandoning my truth in order to believe what others see in me and what their standards are. I have to be vigilant to keep what works and leave the rest. My recovery is my recovery and I can't blame anyone else if I return to my illness. I have to be responsible as I put my hand in God's to write down and remember what my truth is.
I do this by repetition at devotion almost every day. I read what has worked in the past to keep me healthy and in the program and what has sent me overboard and into the wash. Recovery and other codependents have been some of my greatest gifts in life. I keep what I have through practice and working with others. Thanks
