I'm happy to offer service to CODA recovery with a share on my experience, strength & hope in my recovery journey.
In winter 2007 I was in my second consecutive treatment center for CODA issues when the counselor asked me to tell him about myself ...and I could not without relating me via my dad, brother, husband, children, work or volunteering !?! What was wrong with that? But honestly I was very uncomfortable, really at a loss to talk about myself outside of roles. I was declared a flaming co-dependent. My eyes were opened that -yes, there was strength in recovery from this brain addiction (dis)ease I could not deny that I was suffering from.
Strength came from others committed to the journey of recovery as a process of principles not about the personalities! The 12 steps work, I worked them in AA and have applied the Principles in all my affairs. Emotional Sobriety regardless of my addiction -is a daily opportunity to detach from other people, places and things! Keeping my next right thing is a focus on self-care basics & balanced Service Work
