Codependents come to CoDA in crisis and in urgent need of a meeting. Even old timers have to look for meetings, when they're away from home. People rely on information obtained from the CoDA website, local intergroup postings or the CoDA phone volunteers who locate meeting details for them. It's important that the online posting for your meeting - its address, contact phone numbers, start time and day of the week - remains current! Before they arrive, members and newcomers need to know whether a meeting:
·allows (or doesn't allow) health professionals and health professionals in training
·is a reading/writing/sharing meeting, where sharing is intended to focus mainly on the topic of the reading
·has specific gender requirements e.g., men only, women only, GLBTG (Please note that in the spirit of Tradition Three, limited gender meetings must allow attendance by members of the excluded genders who feel they need a meeting when there is no other, nearby meeting at that time.)
·has decided that crosstalk is/is not allowed
·has arranged for babysitting to be available
·has access for the disabled
·focuses on one topic (e.g., Traditions; Step Study, Service Concepts)
·does not permit those under 18 to attend
In light of the Fourth and Fifth Traditions, when meetings register with CoDA it is important that they declare just what they do beyond the reading of the four required Foundational Documents (the Twelve Steps, Twelve Traditions, Welcome and Preamble). It is also critical that trusted servants continue to update meeting particulars whenever a group's description changes.
One further matter needs to be decided: the use (or non use) of outside (non-CoDA) literature. Since the 1990 Service Conference, CoDA has had a process of clarification about the use of outside literature. CoDA asks that any meeting choosing to use non-Conference approved literature announce that decision in these words: "Our meeting has chosen by group conscience to use literature that is NOT endorsed by the CoDA world fellowship."
Make sure that newcomers can find your meetings by updating registration information at www.coda.org. There are fields on the update form where these details may be listed.

Per the 2nd tradition, For our group purpose there is but one ultimate authority, a loving higher power as expressed to our group conscience. Our leaders are but trusted servants; they do not govern.
