We received several responses to our recent mailing regarding teens at CoDA meetings This is a follow up to clarify a few points

For many years CoDA had a committee called CoDA teen and efforts were made in a variety of locations to start meetings specifically for teens Unfortunately none of these meetings were successful for a variety of reasons In 2007 the CoDA world fellowship voted to disband the committee There are currently no plans to reinstate this committee at this time

As one person pointed out, CoDA is currently a "fellowship for men and women" which might imply that teens are not welcome Alcoholics Anonymous is also described as a "fellowship for men and women" and yet teens that have a problem with alcohol are definitely welcome at AA meetings as evidenced by their website Also, our 3rd tradition states: The only requirement for membership in CoDA is a desire for healthy and loving relationships This would seem to imply that any teen looking for healthy and loving relationship should be welcome at our meetings

Someone else stated that having a teen at a CoDA meeting makes him uncomfortable about sharing fully Another person brought up the fact that a meeting exists that has set a minimum age of 18 for attendance These both point out areas where it is up to the group conscience of the meeting to determine policy for that meeting Per our 4th tradition: Each group should remain autonomous except in matters affecting other groups or CoDA as a whole Therefore, CoDA world does not establish policy of this type or at this level

  • This mailing list is a public mailing list - anyone may join or leave, at any time.
  • This mailing list is announce-only.

The purpose of this list is to share information with any & all CoDA members, especially that which may effect CoDA as a whole.

We will be sending out regular emails with CoDA events, announcements, issues & CoDA business of interest to both specific regions & to the entire CoDA fellowship.

Per the 2nd tradition, For our group purpose there is but one ultimate authority, a loving higher power as expressed to our group conscience. Our leaders are but trusted servants; they do not govern. Developing a group conscience requires an informed fellowship, & to be effective trusted servants those you've elected must know the group conscience of the fellowship.
